I’ve been looking into what’s new and changing at Universal Orlando Resort, especially with the big opening of Epic Universe. It’s clear they are always updating things to keep the parks exciting. This means some rides that have been around for a while might be changing or going away. I wanted to share what I’m finding about which attractions might be updated by 2030 and what could take their place, so you can plan your own visits!
Rides Facing Changes
Men in Black Alien Attack
This interactive shooting ride in Universal Studios Florida opened in 2000. It lets you zap aliens and try to get the highest score. It was pretty cool when it first came out.
However, I’m finding that the technology in this ride feels a bit old now. Universal is always looking for new ways to make things modern. There are some ideas that this ride could be changed to a different theme. A popular idea is a Ghostbusters theme. Imagine switching the aliens for ghosts and turning it into an exciting ghost-hunting adventure. It seems like a good fit for this park.
The Simpsons Ride
The Simpsons Ride has been a part of Universal Studios Florida since 2008. It replaced the Back to the Future ride. It uses a motion simulator to take you through fun, cartoonish scenes from the show.
I’m learning that Disney now owns The Simpsons. This means Universal’s agreement to use the characters might not last forever. It’s hard to imagine Universal putting a lot of money into updating a ride they don’t fully control. I’ve seen ideas from fans suggesting it could be changed back to a Back to the Future ride. Another thought is creating a whole area that celebrates classic Universal movies and attractions.
Fast & Furious Supercharged
Opened in 2018 in Universal Studios Florida, this ride has gotten a lot of not-so-great comments. It uses a lot of screens and 3D effects, but many visitors feel it didn’t live up to the excitement expected. It often has shorter wait times compared to nearby attractions.
I think this ride’s future might be short because Universal knows when something isn’t working well. The building it’s in is quite large, which means it’s a good spot for something new. They could replace it with something more interactive or something that guests want to ride again and again.
Skull Island Reign of Kong
This ride in Islands of Adventure opened in 2016. It’s based on King Kong, and people expected amazing things. Instead, it’s a dark ride that uses screens a lot, with some moving figures.
Given that King Kong isn’t as popular as some other Universal characters, I’m seeing information suggesting this ride might not be around after 2030. Replacing it with a popular new movie theme could attract more people. Universal is always looking to use popular franchises.
Pteranodon Flyers
This attraction in Islands of Adventure is a special kind of roller coaster for younger kids. However, it has a rule that can be confusing: children need an adult to ride, and adults need a child. This means many guests can’t ride it, even if they want to.
Because of its low number of riders it can handle and its confusing rules, I expect this might be removed. They could replace it with something new that is more family-friendly and easy for everyone to enjoy, while still being fun for the younger guests.
Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls
This water ride in Islands of Adventure has been splashing guests since 1999. It brings the funny cartoon character Dudley Do-Right to life. It’s a fun ride with a big drop, but many children today might not know who Dudley Do-Right is.
I’m finding that the age of the ride and the character not being as well-known means it could be changed. Some people are suggesting it could become a Scooby-Doo water ride. Scooby-Doo is still very popular with kids today. A mystery story with spooky parts could make it a hit, and it could keep the exciting water drop.
Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon
Universal created this ride in Universal Studios Florida to feature the late-night show host Jimmy Fallon. It uses motion simulators to take you on a funny trip through New York City, with digital guest stars.
It seems like Jimmy Fallon’s popularity in real life hasn’t made this ride a long-term favorite. The wait times are often short, and it doesn’t have the strong appeal that keeps rides popular for many years. By 2030, I think this ride could be retired for something more timeless and liked by more people.
Doctor Doom’s Fearfall
Located in Islands of Adventure, this ride is a drop tower. It shoots you up high and then drops you back down. It’s quick and intense, but it’s also showing its age. Compared to taller drop rides at other parks, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall feels less exciting.
With the future of Marvel characters at Universal not completely clear, this ride seems like an easy one to change or re-theme. Even though it doesn’t take up a lot of space, it could be transformed into something new, perhaps using another superhero theme if Universal gets the rights.
Universal’s Future Plans
Universal Orlando Resort is always moving forward, and with Epic Universe now open, they are working hard to keep all their parks fresh and exciting. This means that some of the rides we know now will not be there in the future. From Men in Black to Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, several attractions are on a timeline as Universal looks ahead to 2030.
While it’s always a little sad to see favorite rides go, the idea of new, modern attractions is exciting. Think about new themes like Ghostbusters, Scooby-Doo, or bringing back classic Universal stories. Universal has always been about creating new experiences, and the next few years will surely be no different.
Planning Your Visit
When to Visit Orlando
I’ve been researching the best times to visit. Spring and fall often have pleasant weather and fewer crowds than summer or holiday periods. Planning your trip around these times can help you have a more comfortable experience, especially with children like my daughter Sofia and Emma.
It’s always a good idea to check the crowd calendars for Universal Orlando Resort before you book. This can give you a better idea of busy periods.
Understanding Park Passes
When you plan a trip to Universal Orlando Resort, I’ve learned that getting the right park pass is important. There are different types of passes, and some allow you to visit more than one park in a day. This can be very useful for seeing everything you want.
For example, a Park-to-Park ticket would let you ride the Hogwarts Express between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. I’m considering this option for when we might visit.
Making the Most of Your Day
To get the most out of your time, I recommend arriving at the parks before they officially open. This is often called “rope drop.” It’s a great way to get on popular rides with shorter waits right at the start of the day.
Using the Universal Orlando Resort app can also be very helpful. You can check wait times for rides and show schedules directly on your phone. This helps you plan your day better.
Options for Families
When I plan family trips, I always look for places that are easy for kids. Universal has many attractions that are great for different ages. Rides like Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl in Universal Studios Florida are gentle. And in Islands of Adventure, the area called Seuss Landing is designed to be very magical for younger children.
I’m also looking into dining options. Many restaurants offer kids’ menus. Some places, like the Three Broomsticks in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, offer a fun atmosphere that feels like you’re part of the story, which kids like Sofia and Emma would probably enjoy.
Staying Nearby
Finding the right place to stay is also a big part of planning. Universal offers several on-site hotel options. These hotels often come with special benefits, like early park admission. This can be a real advantage for getting to the popular rides before most other guests.
There are also many hotels located just outside the resort. These can sometimes offer more budget-friendly options. I’m comparing these for our next potential trip to Orlando.
Transportation Tips
Getting around Orlando is pretty straightforward. If you’re staying at a Universal hotel, they offer free transportation to the parks. This often includes buses or even water taxis. For those staying off-site, there are shuttle services, taxis, and ride-sharing options readily available.
If you plan to visit other attractions in the wider Orlando area, having a rental car might be useful. Just remember to factor in parking costs at the parks and hotels.
Dining Experiences
Orlando has a huge variety of food. Beyond the theme parks, you can find restaurants for almost any taste. Whether you are looking for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, there are plenty of choices. I’m always looking for places that are easy for families with young children.
Researching restaurants in advance is something I find very helpful. It lets you check menus and reviews to make sure it’s a good fit for your family’s needs and preferences.
Preparing for the Weather
The weather in Orlando can be quite warm and humid, especially during the summer months. It’s important to stay hydrated. I always pack water bottles that we can refill throughout the day. Sunscreen, hats, and light clothing are also very important.
Afternoon rain showers are common in the summer. Having a small umbrella or a poncho can be really useful. It doesn’t usually stop the parks from operating, but it’s good to be ready.
What to Pack
When packing for a theme park trip, I try to keep it practical. Comfortable shoes are a must, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking. A small backpack is handy for carrying essentials like snacks, sunscreen, and a portable phone charger. Staying connected and having power for photos is key.
If you plan on going on water rides, like Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, you might want to pack a change of clothes or a small, quick-drying towel. This can make the rest of your day much more comfortable.
Considering the Age Range
I always think about the ages of the children when choosing activities. Universal parks offer a good balance. While some rides are thrilling and best for older kids or adults, there are many gentler options. Areas like Seuss Landing cater specifically to the youngest visitors.
For my younger daughter, Emma, I look for rides with no height restrictions or very low ones. Sofia, my older daughter, enjoys the more adventurous attractions. It’s great that Universal has a range of experiences that can appeal to both.
Planning for 2026
As I look ahead to planning trips for 2026, I’m keeping these potential ride changes in mind. It’s exciting to think about what new experiences Universal might introduce. I’ll be watching for announcements about any new rides or re-themed areas.
Staying flexible is key when planning a theme park vacation. While it’s good to have a plan, being open to changes can lead to unexpected fun. I’m looking forward to seeing how Universal continues to evolve.
It’s always an adventure planning trips, and I hope sharing what I’m finding helps you plan your own wonderful visit to Orlando!
