Universal Orlando’s New Theme Park Opens

I’m planning a family trip to Orlando, and I’ve been gathering all the details to make sure we have a fantastic time. It looks like there’s always something new happening, and keeping track of it all can be a bit much! I want to share what I’ve learned about what’s current and upcoming, especially for families like mine who prioritize easy and fun experiences.

What’s Happening at Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando Resort is a big place with lots to see and do! I’ve been looking at the different theme parks, water parks, and CityWalk to get a good overview.

Universal Studios Florida

Universal Studios Florida has a lot of movie magic. I found out that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster is now permanently closed as of August 18, 2025. That’s a change to know about if you were hoping to ride it.

The park is also home to DreamWorks Land, which opened in June 2024. It sounds like a great spot for younger kids, with areas inspired by movies like Shrek and Trolls. It’s a place where you can meet characters, which I know my youngest, Emma, would love!

There’s also Illumination’s Villain-con Minion Blast, which sounds like it’s all about the fun, mischievous side of Minions. I also saw that parts of Illumination’s Minion Land have recently opened, including a new eatery called Illumination’s Minion Cafe. I’m always looking for easy family dining options, so that’s good to note.

I also noticed that the Universal Mega Movie Parade had some temporary closures in October 2025, and there will be some ride refurbishments in early 2026. I’m trying to plan our visit for later in 2026, so it’s helpful to know about these planned updates. For example, Revenge of the Mummy will be closed January 15-21, 2026, and the Hogwarts Express will be closed February 9-23, 2026. I always check the most current schedules before booking anything, as these dates can change.

Islands of Adventure

Islands of Adventure also has some amazing attractions, especially for fans of wizards and dinosaurs. I read that Jurassic Park River Adventure will be closed for a long period, from January 5, 2026, to November 20, 2026. This is a big one, so I’m making a note of it.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is a newer Harry Potter ride, and I’m definitely looking into that for Sofia and me. The Jurassic World VelociCoaster is also mentioned as a big thrill ride.

Similar to Universal Studios Florida, the Hogwarts Express will also be unavailable from February 9-23, 2026.

I also found out that Dudley Do-Right’s RipSau Falls had some closures in October 2025, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will be closed November 10-20, 2025. It seems like there are always some planned maintenance periods to keep the rides in top shape.

Volcano Bay

Volcano Bay is the water theme park. It sounds like a great way to cool off. I learned that it closes for the season each year, and this year it will be closed starting October 26, 2026, with plans to reopen in March 2027. This is important information for planning a visit outside of the summer months.

There are also select dates in November and December 2025, and January and February 2026, where Volcano Bay will be closed. I’m looking into visiting in Spring 2026, so I’ll need to watch those dates closely.

Universal Epic Universe

A big piece of news is the opening of Universal’s newest park, Epic Universe, on May 22, 2025. I’m very excited about this! It’s described as Universal Orlando Resort’s biggest park and will feature different themed lands like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Nintendo, How to Train Your Dragon, and Universal Monsters. Sofia, who is 13, is going to be thrilled with the Nintendo and Harry Potter areas.

The Universal Helios Grand Hotel, which opened April 16, 2025, is located right there and offers special park entrance privileges to Epic Universe. That might be a great option for us to consider for easy access.

I’ve seen that there are specific attractions available for Early Park Admission at Epic Universe from June 18 to December 31, 2025. This is a great perk to take advantage of if you’re staying at a qualifying hotel.

Universal CityWalk

CityWalk is the entertainment district. It seems like a fun place to go in the evening. I saw that for the Halloween Horror Nights season, they have something called Dead Coconut Club, which takes over the Red Coconut Club with themed drinks and decor. It sounds like a unique adult-focused experience for that time of year.

They also have a Halloween Bash with characters. For families, I’ve also noted that the Universal Studios Store has expanded to include a SUPER NINTENDO WORLD section and a Wizarding World of Harry Potter area, complete with a Butterbeer counter. That’s perfect for picking up souvenirs and themed treats.

For some interactive fun, Universal’s Great Movie Escape offers escape room adventures based on Back to the Future and Jurassic World. Those sound like a fun challenge for older kids and adults.

Special Events and Seasonal Activities

I’m always looking for ways to make our trip extra special, and special events are a big part of that. It looks like Universal Orlando has a lot planned throughout the year.

Halloween Horror Nights

If you’re planning a visit in late summer or fall, Halloween Horror Nights is a major event. It runs from August 29 to November 2. I know this is primarily for adults and older teens because it’s all about scares, haunted houses, and thrill entertainment. It sounds intense but very popular.

Holidays at Universal Orlando

Later in the year, from November 21 through January 4, is the Holidays at Universal Orlando celebration. This sounds much more family-friendly, with festive decorations, special entertainment, and holiday dining. I’m definitely considering our trip around this time because it feels like a magical experience for everyone.

Wicked Celebration

There’s also a celebration for the smash-hit Wicked movie happening. Universal Studios Florida has a dedicated store where you can find merchandise, see costumes, and enjoy themed snacks. It’s a nice touch for fans of the movie.

Planning Your Stay

Choosing the right place to stay is also a big part of the planning process. I’ve been looking at the Universal Orlando Resort hotels.

Universal Orlando Hotels

There are quite a few hotels to choose from. Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort are newer Prime Value hotels that opened in early 2025, offering a stellar and planetary theme respectively. They seem like good options for basic comfort and amenities.

The Universal Helios Grand Hotel, which opened in April 2025, is part of the Signature Collection and offers amazing views of Epic Universe, along with those exclusive park entrance privileges. That sounds like a really convenient choice if the budget allows.

I also noticed some hotel events happening. The Hard Rock Hotel has live music series called Velvet Unplugged and Velvet Sessions, with specific dates in October and November 2025. Loews Portofino Bay Hotel hosts Harbor Nights on select dates in October and November 2025, featuring wine, food, live music, and opera. These sound like lovely, more relaxed experiences for adults or families with older children.

General Visitor Tips

I’m trying to make our trip as smooth as possible, so I’m paying attention to the little details. It’s helpful to know about things like Early Park Admission, which is available at Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and Epic Universe. Being able to get into the parks a bit earlier can really help beat the crowds, especially with young children.

I’m also looking into the park guides and touring plans that Orlando Informer provides. Having a plan can make a big difference, especially when you’re trying to fit everything in and keep the kids happy. I think for families, having a clear idea of what attractions are best suited for certain age groups is crucial. For instance, Sofia, my 13-year-old, is looking for more thrills, while Emma, who is 6, will need more age-appropriate rides and play areas. I’m finding resources that help map out the best way to experience each park are invaluable.

I’ve also noticed that Universal Orlando Resort is always updating and improving. While some rides might be closed for refurbishment, new attractions and experiences are always coming. It’s a good idea to check the official Universal Orlando Resort website or trusted fan sites like Orlando Informer regularly for the latest updates on ride closures, park hours, and special events before your trip. This is especially true for attraction availability and operating hours, which can change.

When I think about planning our visit for 2026, I’m considering the overall pace. I want to make sure we have enough downtime without feeling rushed. For a family trip, it’s important to build in breaks, maybe even a midday swim at the hotel pool or a relaxed lunch. I’m aiming for a balance that lets us enjoy the magic without overtiring the kids. It’s all about creating happy memories, and a well-planned trip is the first step.

If you’re also planning a trip to Orlando and looking for more general advice on themes parks, dining, and accommodations, I’ve found that a comprehensive guide can be very helpful. You can find a lot of useful information on the theme parks and other attractions.

I’m really looking forward to our trip. It feels like there’s so much to explore, and I’m excited to create some wonderful family experiences.
